This year WHO both
participated
in and made five interventions
at the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, and will also
be attending the United Nations Sub-Commission on Promotion and
Protection of Human Rights.
WHO has played an active
role in the preparations for the World Conference Against
Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related
Intolerance, which will take place in Durban, South Africa, 31
August- 7 September 2001. Together with the Office of the High
Commissioner for Human Rights and the Joint United Nations
Programme on HIV/AIDS, WHO is holding a panel
discussion in Durban to run parallel to the Conference.
The title of this event is Exploring the link: HIV/AIDS, stigma,
discrimination and racism.
WHO also continues to
support
the United Nations human rights treaty bodies, by
supplying information and data in line with the Organization’s
areas of expertise.
