                A Health
and Human Rights of Migrants working group is responsible for
the implementation of this project, which consists of WHO, the
International Centre for Migration and Health (ICMH), the Office
of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the
Fondazione Internazionale Lelio Basso/ Istituto Mario Negri.
This project recognizes that health risks are increased because
of migrants’ vulnerability due to lack of full enjoyment of
human rights, including freedom from all forms of
discrimination, access to information, adequate health services
and health insurance. The overall project objective is to reduce
the vulnerability of migrants, and thus, risk and impact of
ill-health by enhancing their health and human rights protection
in national health policies and legislation. The following
activities will be conducted under this project:

                  -

To
identify best practises as reflected in health policies and
legislation which foster the strongest mutually reinforcing
interaction between the promotion and protection of the
health of migrants and the promotion and protection of human
rights of migrants within national health systems.
                  -

To
contrast these with actual practice and experiences in
countries to determine how policies and legislation
recognisant of the health and human rights of migrants may
benefit positively by reducing vulnerablity causing adverse
                    health impacts of migrants.
                  -

To
formulate key health and human rights policy recommendations
and guiding principles for legislators through an inclusive
and participatory approach involving migrant populations,
applicable to countries on a regional basis.
