                WHO
                has long-standing experience and expertise in working in the
                area of health indicators. In the area of health and human
                rights, current work on indicators is focusing on: 
                
                  - 
                    
developing
                    indicators to measure the realization of the right to the
                    highest attainable standard of health  
                  - 
                    
developing
                    indicators for a rights-based approach to health- generic as
                    well as within specific program areas, such as reproductive
                    rights.   
                  - 
                    
supporting
                    WHO’s work in the area of developing indicators to measure
                    the performance of health systems, in areas which have a
                    link with human rights norms and principles, particularly
                    the measurement of health systems responsiveness.   
                 
                In
                September 4-8, 2000, WHO participated in, and organized
                a panel discussion on health and human
                rights indicators at, the Conference of the
                International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS) on "Statistics,
                development and human rights" in Montreux, Switzerland.
