The
Department on Child and Adolescent Health, which provides
regular input to the CRC, has during the past year focused on
capacity building on the rights of the child in relation to
health issues in WHO regions. A number of national training
workshops will be conducted later this year. An increasing
number of WHO Regional Offices are becoming involved in the CRC
reporting process, following initial WHO capacity building
workshops, and efforts are being made to strengthen WHO input.
Furthermore, discussions are under way with the Committee and
its secretariat, as well as with partners, on how to best use
the concluding observations and recommendations for improving
the health situation of children and adolescents in countries.
The
Department of Reproductive Health and Research last year made
brief reports to both the Human Rights Committee and the
Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. It has also
provided definitions of indicators and suggested questions to
guide the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Right’s
discussions on reproductive health. This year the
Department has also focused efforts on training on reproductive
rights in countries, which includes the treaty body reporting
processes.
The
Department of Gender and Women Health is developing basic
guidelines for the use of WHO staff working with Member States
in preparation of health inputs to Country reports to the CEDAW
Committee and supporting follow-up on CEDAW Committee
recommendations and observations. It is also preparing a booklet
to make clearer to members of the CEDAW Committee key issues of
women’s health as they relate to CEDAW.
